    Tamari is thicker and darker in appearance and has a stronger flavour than koikuchi (dark) soy sauce. It is mainly used as a dipping sauce. It is made using little or no wheat and therefore can be a good alternative to soy sauce. However the list of ingredients should always be checked for the presence of wheat.
